Per Huttner contributes to the wonderful anthology “d’Exentricité(s)” which documents 10 years of performance practice in France. In his text “Shamanism, Performance – Text and Spoken Words” Huttner investigates how contemporary performance practices overlap with traditions of shamanism. By bringing performance into dialogue with traditions from indigenous cultures, he can address one of the biggest problems facing performances where the audience actively participates: How can we avoid that the participant only carries out instructions that the artist(s) impose on them? How do we enable those who wish to be truly creative in their participation?
